Steeped in History at Porto de Mós
Lagos was founded by thePhoenicians and Carthaginians
from 1364 to 350BC, before the
Romans occupied the area and
named it 'Lacobriga'.
The Moors took control of the town
in the eighth century constructing
the castle, whose imposing entrance
and walls still stand - its golden
façade set against the deep blue
night sky. A truly awe inspiring sight.
From 1578 until 1756AD Lagos was
the capital of the Algarve and several
historic buildings and statues testify to
its fascinating history. Roman artefacts
and many other interesting items can
be found in the local museum.
